Quarterly Progress Report: August to October 2000
Since
EBONI began on 01 August 2000:
- A Project
Manager, Director and Research Assistant have been appointed and begun
work;
- An initial
Web site has been designed, implemented and launched;
- The
following groups have been established:
- The
Steering Committee;
- The
Management Group, which has met twice;
- An
Electronic Books Group, which has been set up to encourage collaboration
between researchers in the ebook field at Strathclyde;
- Initial
contact has been made with the DNER;
- Two
mailing lists have been set up:
- The
project plan has been drafted in full (including evaluation and dissemination
strategies);
- Portable
ebook companies have been contacted with regard to obtaining free
electronic books;
- Monica
and Ruth attended the ECDL 2000 conference in Lisbon where Monica
delivered a paper on the importance of good design in electronic books;
- Articles
have been / are being written and submitted to:
-
the Electronic Library;
- the
LA Record;
- the
SCONUL Newsletter;
- A report
on the problems surrounding the definition of electronic books is
being written;
- The
Project Team met with the Centre for Academic Practice at Strathclyde
University and discussed areas of overlap and complementary research;
- A survey
of UK HE learning and teaching material available on the Internet
is underway;
- A catalogue
containing the results of this survey is being compiled and will be
available from the project Web site;
- Monica
will sit on the DNER eBook Working Group, and give a presentation
at the first meeting on 15 November 2000;
- Monica
and Ruth will attend a DNER all projects meeting in Manchester on
16-17 November 2000.
